'The Purge' has one of the worst characters I have ever experienced

Seriously. Fuck this movie.

I just watched this on FX for the first time ever and I'm at a loss for words.

This film has some of the worst characters I have ever watched. Listen, I get it. Characters make dumb decisions because PLOT. DUH.

But mother of Christ, the Sandin son is truly just shit on every level. Let's break it down:

First, he disagrees with the Purge, and in an act of self righteousness, lets a guy into their home. I mean, it's so easy - JUST DONT DO ANYTHING RECKLESS FOR 12 FUCKING HOURS. But nope, kid immediately says fuck that.

Then, when Purgers come along and request the dude or threaten death to the family, the parents try to save their family and find the man. Ya know, like good parents would. But NOPE, this little shit is such a cunt that he helps the guy hide. He actually actively works against his family even when he notices exactly what is on the line. He comes inches away from getting his mom and sister killed because who the fuck knows why.

Fortunately, Ethan Hawke - the only sensible character in this movie - does what a good father does and captures the guy. Why? Because he wants to protect his family. But little ole Charlie cries because his father loves him and runs off.

So then the other family members also get infected with whatever stupidity Charlie is carrying and they all simultaneously shame Ethan Hawke, because, ya know.. we are so close to surviving but as always.. PLOT.

So Ethan Hawke reevaluates the situation and thinks what he's doing is wrong. Jesus. SO.. he goes to his fuck of a son Charlie, hands him a gun and tells him to hide and not come out for anything. Charlie very quickly says "Okay". HOLY FUCK.

So this kid puts his family in danger because who cares. Actively leads his family further towards death because of course. Shames his father for trying to protect them, and then when his father sides with him, he's 100% okay with hiding while his father fights for their lives. The kid does NOTHING his father tells him to do until it's "hide while we fight the fight you created."

This dude legitimately not only gets his dad killed, but had his mom and sister seconds away from dying multiple times.

This movie is pure shit. Horrible decision making. Full of unlikable characters. Tired horror tropes. But nothing is worse than Charlie fuckin' Sandin. FUCK. THAT. KID.
