Hello /r/movies! We are media psychologists who study narratives, and we need your help.
Hello /r/movies!
I’m an Assistant Professor at University at Buffalo who does social scientific research on media, narratives, and their cognitive effects (see below for some popular press coverage of our research). My team of grad students and I are conducting research on death scenes in narratives and how they impact us. We’re interested in surveying a broad array of people, particularly people who like narratives. We thought /r/movies would be one of the best subreddits to recruit participants. Thanks to the mods, particularly, /u/girafa who approved this post.
Our survey will take about half an hour to complete. Only one caveat: You must be 18 or older to participate. All responses will be anonymous.
We’ll post a follow-up that includes the results and our interpretation of them to this subreddit following completion of data collection and analysis. In the meantime, I would be happy to answer any questions if there is any interest in our research. We really appreciate anyone who takes the time to complete the survey. You're helping to improve our understanding of stories, characters, and why we like them so much.
