The kraken attack sequence in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest is a great example of how Gore Verbinski's trilogy delivered a mixture of epic and weird moments in great fashion.

I love Dead Mans Chest and a big reason is because of its elaborate action sequences. Whether its the 3 way fight sequence on a wheel or the island escape sequence. The 2 Kraken attacks are thrilling to watch as well. I particularly love the first sequence linked to above.
Visually its terrific to watch with the CGI effects and practical effects mixing in really well. Hans Zimmer's Kraken theme provides the perfect music and the use of organ particularly is excellent.
But its not just that its a cool audio visual scene. I really like Verbinski's touch here as well. Whether its the small moments of comedy or the reference to the "cursed dress" or Davy Jones' speech before calling the Kraken, or just the way the men on the ship meet their death in brutal fashion, it has a unique feel to it.
In the age of spectacle based cinema, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 gave some memorable and fantastic blockbuster moments that are so fun to watch.
