The Steven Spielberg "War of the World's" movie starring Tom Cruise is a great sci-fi horror movie

I'm serious. And what makes it awesome, in my opinion, is just the constant feeling of hopelessness throughout the movie. There's specifically a scene where the military throws literally everything they have at the aliens with their tanks, helicopter machine guns and missiles, everything. And it doesn't do jack diddly squat. Yet the casualties of those brave men and women trying to fight a basically invincible threat makes it that much more terrifying.

Now, obviously, the ending bit about the aliens dying because of something like the common cold is a bit silly. But the rest of the film is absolutely awesome with its atmosphere and tone of feeling like you can't do anything to fight for yourself or others and can only run and hide.
