The action scenes at the end of District 9 are still some of the most intense and emotionally explosive I've seen.

"Three years...I promise"

Wikus is desperate and as each second passes he's morphing into a totally different being, while he's also becoming an alien in his own fucking life. Each second that passes he endures a hierarchy of desperate needs with literally the only control he has over this located somewhere in the skies.

He finds an ally in an alien who's life's journey is to scrape together enough fuel to go home. But neither wants to leave. Christopher wants to stay because he discovers his kind are being experimented on. He can't leave them behind. Wikus wants desperately to stay because he doesn't want to leave his wife - but she's left him just enough for him to have no choice.

District 9 is being evicted. It's now or never.

Wikus gives every last drop he has to get a cure for himself in a selfish gamble but it's impossible. Everything is against him. The only way is to help Christopher. It's his only chance. The ultimate half prawn sidekick in history.

If Chris fails, he fails, and he loses himself but even worse he loses his wife forever.

"Don't make me go through this and not make it. Understand?"

The sacrifice that might save him and the frantic learning how to assimilate with alien weapons. Those blue visual displays on his headset are fucking epic. Taking aim at multiple targets, teaching himself alien language that his body understands before he does. Learn on the job or he's a dead prawn.

"Select weapons. Okay, fuck. Which one? No, not that one. Go forward. Forward scan. Okay..."

"Fire"

The sweet tension. The nervousness till the end. Christopher has a child who is vulnerable...but he's a fucking hero too and didn't play games.

"I can't wait for those med boys to cut you up."
