The Man who Shot Liberty Valance is a fantastic classic western that has great actors, humor, dialogue, setting and story telling

My dad has always talked about this movie that he watched when he was thirteen. It stars Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, John Wayne and a young Lee Van Cleef (the Bad from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) that assists the big baddie Lee Marvin.

It was a first for me watching Lee Marvin as well. He plays the main baddie, Liberty Valance. The man has a mean ass face and a voice, you think he makes up, to go with it. To add his height in the mix, he becomes the ultimate town bully.

The characters are entertaining to watch and listen to. I got transported to the town in the movie with the large number of extras they have in it that make the place seem like a true old western town on the rise.

The movie does a great job giving an eerie feel to how modern it seems for an old town because of the eagerness and want from the people to flourish their town into the prosperous future. But Lee Marvin and his men have an eerie hold on the town, they bring the worst of the old west with them. You can even sense that the town folk are sick of his cliché routine of bandits that are slowing down the town’s wheel of progression.

Plus the prop usage in the movie is fantastic. Every actor in the movie bumps into something by accident. I just appreciated the fantastic acting that I have not seen in a while from modern movies. They get physical in this movie too. Plus there is a cameo of David Carradine’s dad at the end with a thick accent.
