Equilibrium (2002)
So the Matrix came out with a bigger budget and spawned a bit of a new genre that was actually pretty difficult to copy. Equilibrium (Christian Bale) remains one of my Favorites because it had a Story that was highly Inspired by a Classic Novel: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It took that Novel and put a Matrix Twist on it but it did so in a way that was still such a pleasure to Watch, the Plot/Story was always the Moving Part to the Action and had some pretty damn good cinematography considering it had a pretty miniscule budget by Action Movie Standpoints, so almost everything had to be done by the Actors so that meant little to no CGI and that brings me to the Fights!
The Choreography for such a little budget didn't disappoint! The Story sucks you in and then you get these CRAZY Fight scenes where it's like John Wick by Today's Standards of Gritty Gunfights but still exaggerated and even the exaggerated Fights had a pretty decent back story to it as well.
I'm always surprised how many people have never heard of this Movie! John Wick is actually more similar to this than The Matrix but obviously this is like nearly 20 years before the John Wick Trilogy and only 2 years (give or take) after The Matrix
