The Princess Bride might be the most tightly edited movie I’ve ever seen
Seriously. Most movies are chocolate chip cookies; the necessary parts are chips, the good parts are dough. The great movies are mostly chocolate chips, and dough to keep them together.
“Princess Bride” is a bowl full of chocolate chips. No scene is wasted; no FRAME is excessive. It moves so quickly. If they wanted to build out the mythology, it’s on “Lord of the Rings” levels. But it’s the nostalgic memories of a sick kid; it’s all the most action packed parts of LOTR.
It cuts decisively through everything other than the best parts of every adventure movie. It’s edited down to the chocolate chips of every great cookie.
It’s exactly what it sets out to be. It’s dern near perfect.
