What's a horror movie with smart characters?

I've been on a bit of a horror binge lately and of course a common trope is how the characters are usually pretty stupid. Be it the teenager that runs straight into the arms of the killer in a slasher movie, the character in a haunted house movie who refuses to believe their kids/partner that there's something strange going on despite all weird shit happening or the group that unnecessarily splits up so they can get killed one by one.

Then I rewatched John Carpenter's The Thing and it stood out to me that the characters overall act pretty smart. Especially for horror standards. They make smart observations, figure stuff out and don't make dumb decisions simply for plot convenience. When they fuck up it's mostly because of fear, mistrust, paranoia or because they just get outsmarted by the thing.

That got me thinking, what are some other horror movies with smart characters?
