What are some missed opportunities in film?

For example, it seems the ship has sailed to see Chris Hemsworth as He-man or Jeffrey Donovan as Batman. It would have been interesting to see Finchner direct his vision for Alien 3.

I know there are lots of complexities regarding how a film comes about including rights to a movie etc. But that aside, this question is open.

What are some other missed opportunities for not only actors but directors too?
