I stumbled across “Pig” today and was utterly blown away. Holy shit what a film.

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for campy action flicks, and I’m also from the northwest, so I basically came into this expecting John Wick with a pig and Nicolas Cage in Portland. I could not have been more wrong. I’m not even fully done processing the movie, but I’d love to discuss it as I feel that there’s SO much to unpack. One line that will stay with me was when Cage says “If I didn’t go looking for her, in my mind she’d still be alive” and the guy responds “But she wouldn’t be”. It was such a strong moment between two people grieving, with the boy having I guess more maturity in that area? But the reverse is true, for the boy, as his mother isn’t truly dead, but may as well be.

The next line was Cage’s lecture of the chef. “It’s not real. The critics the customers, none of them are real because you aren’t real”. It’s like holy shit, in the era of social media where you sell yourself however you want, that’s quite a meditation.

Please share more that I missed!
