Kindergarten Cop has one fucked up ending
Just rewatched this for the first time in years. Movie starts with typical 80’s/90’s Schwarzenegger action/violence then leads into the “fish out of water” story- big, tough guy out of his element stuff. Most of it is ok, a few laughs here and there- pretty inoffensive . Pamela Reed as Ahnold’s partner is the best part of the movie by far (I think the ferret is a close second). Trying to find wife of jailed scumbag who supposedly stole all his money and ran off to a little town in suburban Portland.
But the ending- as I was watching it all came back to me- this movie has some pretty fucked up shit going on. It starts with the father getting out of jail by his mother killing the only witness with some tainted smack. Gets better- father and grandmother travel to said town to retrieve grandson. Father first beats the shit out of a local parent just because he wants a toy he couldn’t get. Then proceed to the school, father sets fire to it, kidnaps his son at gunpoint, tells him he’s his father, punches his mother in the face, then a gunfight ensues where the father gets killed in front of the kid (by his next daddy?)and his teacher is shot by his father a couple of times. While new daddy is hiding in the bathroom from grandmother (who comes in to see her son is dead, doesn’t seem to care, just wants her grandson), right before he’s about to get murdered the partner (who was run over by granny) appears and knocks her upside the head with a baseball bat. Oh, and my favorite part is when Ahnold is being wheeled out on a gurney and all the kids are gathered around him.
Best part is he is hired back as a permanent teacher.
Holy shit are those kids going need some serious therapy! 🤣
What was Ivan Reitman, the studio, everyone involved thinking?!?! I realize it was 1990, but geez.
Does anyone recall if this movie was being marketed as a comedy, family film, action film or what?
