What ever happened to Directors cuts and Unrated Editions?

I feel like up until around 2015-2017, there were So. many. Theatrical releases that got a “directors cut” maybe it was a reworking, or had scenes added, extended or removed. Sometimes they made movies better, sometimes it made it worse.

For Pg-13 movies it was almost always some kind of “unrated” edition. Pretty self explanatory.

But now it feels like whatever is released in theaters is just what we get. Sure there have been plenty of “directors cut” talks like John wick 4 or Napoleon but that’s all they seemed to be.

What happened?
