Will Nicolas Winding Refn have a mainstream comeback?
So when DRIVE came out, Refn was just one of the most interesting directors around, having a huge hit, combining arthouse with mainstream. He just did BRONSON, which was also quite a well-received film, I personally loved Walhalla Rising, and the Pusher trilogy made him this very credible guy who was able to do anything really.
I liked most of what came after this, but his movies got slower and slower, didn't make a lot of money and his TV Series are almost completely overlooked.
With his talent in visual storytelling I always think that his next movie could be a (small) hit, but it never happens. He goes to the extremes, both in violence and pace, so it's hard to get a big audience.
Do you think he'll have a huge comeback someday, a new style maybe, or will he be an obscure indie director?
