I just rewatched Troy (2004). Why didn't The Odyssey starring Sean Bean ever happen?

I just rewatched Troy on TV last night. It was a decent movie, and from what I understand made a lot of money. It seems like through out the movie they were trying to set up Sean Bean, who played Odysseus, like they were going to make the Odyssey as a sequel.

It reminded me of the same way Marvel studios sometimes sets up future sequels by giving cameos and easter egg lines to the guy starring in the next movie.

Why didn't The Odyssey starring Sean Bean ever happen? Why didn't they ever try to make a sequel to Troy?
