The MCU has had fake-out deaths (where a character is believed to have died and later brought back/revealed to have lived) a grand total of twelve times. (spoilers, obviously)

  • Tim Roth in The Incredible Hulk is seemingly killed by the hulk but later comes back as Abomination (I know this was inevitable but I'm just creating an argument).

  • Bucky in Captain America: The First Avenger supposedly falls to his death but is later resurrected (again, I know this was inevitable)

  • We are led to believe that Loki falls into the abyss in Thor 1

  • Coulson in The Avengers is stabbed, later brought back to life

  • Pepper falls to her apparent death in Iron Man 3, later revealed to have survived via Extremis

  • We are again led to believe that Loki has died in Thor: The Dark World, later revealed to be an illusion (this actually irritated me cause I thought it would have been a good way to retire his character)

  • Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was thought to have died, even given a tombstone, but this was later revealed to be a ruse.

  • Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy was thought to have died, later brought back as a sapling.

  • J.A.R.V.I.S. in Avengers: Age of Ultron was supposedly killed by Ultron, later revealed to have survived and then uploaded into the Vision body

  • In Ant-Man, we are told the original Wasp died by going subatomic, but it now seems likely that she will come back because Scott Lang saw visions of her when he went subatomic, and I believe she's set to appear in the next Ant Man film.

  • Not quite the same, but the advertising led us to believe that War Machine would die in Captain America: Civil War, and the movie even seemed to be hinting at it too, but he eventually was just revealed to be crippled, and even then not really cause Stark immediately gave him some robotic legs to use. I won't count this one but it's still similar.

  • Nobu in Netflix's Daredevil, thought to have burned alive but later came back via the Hand.

  • Elektra, same thing. Thought to have been killed, Hand brought her back. I know this is crucial for the character but still.

I have not watched "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." or "Agent Carter" so I'm not sure if there have been any fake-out deaths in those.

Anyone else think this is a huge problem? There's no tension anymore because of all these fakeouts, I mean my god there's almost one in every movie. This is a really bad case of Marvel wanting to have its cake and eat it too. They want the emotional scenes and drama of killing a character without the actual consequences and implications of such an event (meaning, they would no longer be able to use the character). It's now at the point where I actually get a little irritated during these "death" scenes because I know for a fact that it won't stick. Quicksilver is the only exception and they outright said that he only died to avoid legal issues with Fox.

Yes I realize this happens all the time in the comics but that doesn't mean it is necessarily good either.
