Sherlock Holmes is the most-portrayed movie character. More than 70 actors have played the role in over 200 films, the first appearing in 1900.

The just-announced Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly version of Holmes and Watson will be the fourth currently ongoing screen version, along with Downey Jr./Law, Cumberbatch/Freeman, and Miller/Liu. Ian McKellan played the character in last year's Mr. Holmes, too. From Wikipedia:
