In the movie "The Santa Clause", who was the original "Mrs. Claus" before Elizabeth Mitchell's character in the sequel?

In the Santa Clause 2, the elves tell Tim Allen that he needs to find a wife to become the new Mrs. Claus. However, when Tim Allen first arrived in the North Pole in the first movie, there is no sign of the previous Mrs. Claus that was married to the Santa that fell off Tim Allen's roof. What happened to her? Did the elves just tell her "sorry your husband's dead and we need to welcome in the new Santa that killed him, so we gotta kick you out." ?
