March In Review: Holy shit. 52 movies? I remember sitting in the cinema, waiting for Deadpool to start, and I started to tear up a little bit. I was sitting there, about to watch a movie I never though would get made, about a character I fell in love with 10 years ago. I read the script when it leaked in 2010, and when the movie started, and Juice Newton started to play, and we began floating around this scene, frozen in time, exactly how the script described it... It was orgasmic. I went on to watch it multiple times, and it would be my favourite movie of March, if I hadn't also watched Amelie. Amelie was a sweet and lovely watch. I fell in love with the girl, as I'm sure most others did. Amelie would have been my favourite movie of March, if I didn't watch Calvary. Which is my #2 movie of the year. Sweet Jesus, Calvary, what an amazing movie. I really loved Brandan Gleeson's "had enough of everyone's bullshit" character. Calvary, man. Calvary.

And then there's The Last Samurai, another first viewing. That movie made me cry. It was fantastic. I started it, wanting a Tom Cruise action flick set in old Japan. What I got was so much more. Never thought I would feel so sad about someone getting a haircut. This movie has gotta be my #4 for the year, I think.

I really went all out in March. Life Is Beautiful, Black Hawk Down, Olympus Has Fallen, Dr Strangelove, Apocalypto. I can't think of anything negative about these films. They all succeeded in sucking me in and making me feel what they wanted me to feel.

April In Review: It's worth noting, I've been unemployed and severely depressed for the vast majority of this year. Which has allowed me to watch so many movies. This post right now is the first time I'm seeing all this information at once, and I'm quite flabbergasted at the amount I've been able to watch in just a month's time. Fuck me, 83 movies.

Rush might be the movie of April. Loved Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda. I watched Mulholland Drive and spent 90 minutes after the movie, reading essays on the movie, just so I could understand just what I had watched. I now understand, at least I understand someone else's interpretation of the film. Good enough for me.

99 Homes reminded me how great Andrew Garfield can be. I'm a long time fan of Michael Shannon, so it was a treat having to watch him, but Garfield stole the movie for me. I finally managed to watch Gone With The Wind. 4 hours. Good movie. Probably never watch it again, but I'm glad I finally watched it.

May in Review: Reign On Me. Movie of May, absolutely. Sandler's monologue about his family is truly heartbreaking. I went on a Charlton Heston-a-thon with Soylent Green, Omega Man, and Ten Commandments. Ten Commandments is about as epic as an epic can be, I think. Omega Man was my favourite out of the three, though.

Lobster was disappointing. The first half was great, second half ruined the movie for me.

Zoolander 2. The Family Fang. Special Correspondents. Man Up. These movies really soured May. Though, movies like Alive, Zootopia, Captain America, Flight, and Capote are reason enough to not totally hate May.

June In Review: About midway through June, I had to move into my brother's house. So now I'm living with my nieces, being a full time uncle, what and how much I watch isn't entirely up to me as much as it was once upon a time.

Between Conspiracy, The Decendants, Little Shop Of Horrors, Winter's Bone, Spotlight, Awakenings, The Help, and Popstar, it's a little difficult choosing a favourite. Ah hell, it's Little Shop. Fell in love with the soundtrack, fell in love with Seymore, and Audrey, and Audrey II, and Skidrow, and the puppetry. I've listened to 'Feed Me (Git It)' a few dozen times. Conspiracy is #2. Listening to Nazis discussing what the Final Solution should be is a little scary. Especially how nonchalant they were about the whole thing.

July In Review:* Ah. 19. That's a little more respectable. No movie really stands out to me this month. Elvis & Nixon, I guess. Michael Shannon, as much as I love him, was weird casting for The King. I was, uh, forced to watch that LEGO Friends movie, by the way. Nieces.

November in Review: November was the month I developed a fascination with martial arts movies. The Raid opened that door for me, and I loved that first movie. The second one, while great, not as good as the first one, in my opinion. Ip Man is #1 for November. Donnie Yen as Master Yip is really quite calming. Even when he's angered, and fighting 10 men, I feel a sense of calm whenever he's on screen. Donnie Yen has a smile that reassures me everything will be okay.

Borrowed Time is a short film from the guys at Pixar, I believe. Brutal and depressing. Check it out!

I need to watch The Nice Guys again. Not because I didn't understand it the first time. I just really wanna watch it again. #2 comedy for my year.

December in Review: I watched Westworld today, and I can't get Yul Brenner's face out of my mind. That deadly stare. Boyhood is December's #1. I barely even connected with any of the characters on a personal level, but I really enjoyed watching everyone grow up, and just live their lives. Fear Of 13, and Welcome To Leith are 2 fantastic documentaries I suggest you watch.

I didn't enjoy Fantastic Beasts all that much. Being in that world again, without the kids... Feels off.

2016 In Review

Total Movies Watched: 423

Total First Viewings: 210

So, while I may have failed in watching a movie every single day of the year, I succeeded at watching a year's worth of daily movies, with a little change. And almost half my total watched were first viewings. Not too shabby.

Whiplash is my #1 for my 2016. Calvary #2. Both 2014 films. Was 2014 a good year for movies overall?

Best movie I watched in 2016 that was made in 2016? Hacksaw Ridge. With Silence coming out, 2016 has been a great year for Andrew Garfield, and I can't wait to see him in more roles.

423 movies. Jesus Christ.
