Who is the best working director today in your opinion? Why?

My vote is Denis Villeneuve. Not only has he been releasing some of the most expertly directed and thought provoking cinema, he has also been incredibly prolific in his output. To churn out Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, and then Arrival one after another is unbelievable, not to mention his forthcoming Blade Runner sequel. All of these films span a variety of genres that utilize different techniques and writing styles, with all of them exercising subtlety without being overly esoteric.

I’ll also mention Spike Jonze. Her is maybe my favourite movie of all time, and his work with Charlie Kaufman is jaw dropping. I wish he had a larger output, but I appreciate the time he takes in between projects.
