In Disney’s "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", Spielberg convinced Warner Bros, Fleischer Studios, King Features Syndicate, Felix the Cat Productions, Turner Entertainment, and Universal Pictures/Walter Lantz Productions to "lend" characters. Have other movies had as much IP crossover?
Watching it today, in the era of competing superhero franchises, sharing characters seems completely impossible. What would it take for a DC-Marvel crossover movie, or is such a pipe-dream literally impossible?
Another bit that was surprising to me on a rewatch was how adult the movie is. I feel like there would be an uproar if something with well loved cartoon characters and this much sexual humor were made today. Zemeckis has said in reference to a possible sequel that the “the current corporate Disney culture has no interest in Roger, and they certainly don’t like Jessica at all”.
