After years of debate it is clear who is really at fault for Kevin being left Home Alone.

Now, understand that I'm sure the person who's at fault for Kevin being left home alone meant no malice, I believe...or hope. But lets look at the timeline.

House if full of people, is a mad house, people going all over the place.

Kevin is informed he has to sleep with Fuller who wets the bed.

Pizza arrives, Buzz and the family eat all the cheese pizza.

Buzz instigates Kevin, causing Kevin to push Buzz spilling milk on his plane ticket and having the plane ticket inadvertently thrown in the trash.

Kevin's mom sends Kevin to his room, Kevin doesn't want to sleep with Fuller, begs mom to sleep somewhere else. Mom tells Kevin to sleep in the third floor by himself.

Tree trunk strikes electric generator killing the power.

Family wakes up in a frenzy when they realize they are going to be late and might miss their flight to France.

Heather is put in charge of a headcount of the children.

Next door neighbor shows up and starts talking to van driver and snooping around.

Kids lineup outside and Heather does a headcount. Heather counts the next door neighbor as a body.

Family loads up in the van and make their way to the airport. Kevin's mom ask Heather headcount. Heather gives a snide answer. They arrive just in time to take their flight to France.

Kevin wakes up to a home alone.

So...who is really at fault? One might say, no one, it was a serious of unfortunate events. True, but I ain't Lemony Snicket, I know that there is a person that's responsible for poor Kevin being left home alone. This person is Heather! She was put in charge of doing the headcount. She does such a poor job at it that she mistakes the neighbor for Kevin. She should had made sure that the person she counted was Kevin. I'm sure she meant no malice, but Heather is guilty of negligence. Had she done a thorough job Kevin would had joined his family in France. Out of all the events that lead to Kevin not being woken up and taken to the airport, Heather is the only one that was in cognizance of her actions. She was fully aware of what she was doing. I hope that Kevin is now fully grownup and has a hostile relationship with her.
