What is the biggest gamble an actor has played with their career that paid off in a big way?

Dan Stevens would be my pick, the dude leaves a popular show like downton abbey to do a little indie movie called "the guest" which could have gone horribly. Fast forward to today, he is somewhat of a darling here on the online spaces such as reddit, he is going to be in one of the biggest movies of 2017 "beauty and the beast", he is the lead on a FX XMEN show and is still doing smaller movies like "the ticket" on the side.
