If the new "CHiPs" movie disappointed you, check out "End of Watch" - the other buddy cop movie starring Michael Peña (and Jake Gyllenhaal)
I just finished watching this movie and it was fucking fantastic. Peña and Gyllenhaal have excellent chemistry throughout the film and their character relationship is what drives the entire story. It's shot in a documentary style (although they do take a few artistic liberties here and there, but I didn't mind)
David Ayer directed the film and even though I hated Suicide Squad, I thought that he did a great job with this one. It's a cop drama at heart but it has some great banter/dialogue in it. I enjoyed the lighthearted first-act of the movie, but when the shit goes down, it goes down. It goes from being a buddy cop comedy to an intense action-adventure and I loved every second of it.
It's not perfect - the pacing is a bit off at times and it feels like a lot of the story is skipped over - but maybe that's just to keep the documentary vibe, I don't know. I'd still recommend "End of Watch", Gyllenhaal and Peña make it very enjoyable to watch.
