[Discussion] Let’s discuss about Scooby doo and tom and jerry direct to video movies

Let me explain about two series that becomes direct to video series Tom and jerry and Scooby doo both series have end up suffering what the land of before time did when it makes too much direct to video sequels and it is what tvtrope calls it Sequelitis.

Lets me start off with Scooby doo, As is it consists of 3 eras The zombie island era 1998-2001 What’s new Scooby doo era 2003-2009 The ‘expansion’ era 2010- present

The first era which I like to call zombie island era begins with Scooby doo in zombie island, It helps to revive the franchise because of its dark tone including real monsters and has the gang become young adults different from their previous incarnation this spawned a sequel Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost but then the era took a lighter tone with Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders and then it ended with Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase which was the last one to be made by Hanna barbera productions before it merge with Warner bros animation after its co founders William Hannah’s passing.

The second era which I like to call it ‘What’s new Scooby doo era’ is because the design of the characters is based on the designs from What’s new Scooby doo (2002-2006) began with Scooby-Doo! and the Legend of the Vampire and then ended in 2009 with Scooby-Doo! and the Samurai Sword which was aired two years after the TV show ended .

The third era which I like to call the ‘expansion’ era began from 2010 to present the character designs are similar to the ones from the where are you era from 1969,Here its similar like the usual Scooby mysteries but it expands to one hour ,It began with Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo and they have been ongoing ever since. The era also had crossover with WWE two times.

Okay now let’s go with tom and jerry, now we all know that tom and jerry is a considered a legendary franchise known for its cat and mouse chase with slapstick that are considered violent but mild. The direct to video era began in Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring from 2002 it was ‘meh’ at first but at least it has originality that it spawned few sequels like Blast Off to Mars ,The Fast and the Furry and Shiver Me Whiskers they are like the usual tom and jerry cartoon but expand to 1 or 2 hours.

Anyway the series took a turn and begin to go unoriginal when they team up with other literary works and media franchise like A nutcracker's tale, Sherlock Holmes, Giant adventure, The wizard of oz, The Lost Dragon and Spy Quest (Johnny quest that is) this type of series has the antics of tom and jerry be the background to the main ones where the plot takes place and has bad guys consist of the trio of cats Tin, Pan and Alley.

And what do I think of those direct to video movies well I think they gone stale over the years ,It’s like the producers keep on making new ones but make them as direct to video movies every darn year and to make it worse the upcoming tom and jerry movie involves the movie which is a cult classic ‘Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory’ this cause outrage to the people on the internet ,if the producers of the direct to video movies of tom and jerry and Scooby doo keep making them every year we might end up seeing ‘Scooby doo episodes’ in one hour format that you might find them in a discount bin and upcoming future tom and jerry film like a crossover with WWE superstars like what they did with the Jetsons, Scooby doo and the Flintstones ,A crossover with I don’t know dc superheroes or worse crossover with the harry potter film franchise like this fan art for example : http://ift.tt/2pIlB4K

So if the producers of the Direct to video movies of Scooby doo and tom and jerry should abandon this concept then should at least revive them as TV shows like what they did with the tom and jerry show and be cool Scooby doo which air boomerang except they remain in hiatus but at least with the upcoming boomerang app maybe these shows will no longer remain in hiatus ,So my point is that I hope that the makers of the Scooby doo and tom and jerry direct to video franchise should end this concept and revive them as TV shows so that they will use the ideas originally used for direct to videos as TV episodes with Scooby doo at least for 24 minutes and have the tom and jerry shorts be 11 minutes and have the direct to video minion antagonist Tin, Pan and Alley be recurring antagonists in every episodes.

And I hope they won’t make a direct to video series based on the Looney tunes characters that started from Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run.
