D.Villeneuve: Has any director ever improved so much and so consistently from film to film, achieving both commercial success and artistical standout on all his projects?

Wow, which other director had a run like this? If Blade Runner 2049 continues this streak (it isn't a longshot by now) and he makes Dune a masterpiece (wishful thinking), he'll have a pantheon of genius movies under him.

edit: while I was writing this I remebered early Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, fair comparison?
