I miss Roger Ebert
I used to enjoy getting up every Thursday morning knowing Roger's reviews of the films coming out that weekend would be online. Not only was he an excellent writer, I always felt like I was listening to a friend who loved movies talk to me about a new film he'd seen. He also had a way of opening my eyes - of teaching me - what makes a movie good or bad. I just loved him.
I also had some of my best laughs while reading his reviews.
Things are different now. At some point during the week, I'll check the scores on the Tomatometer and maybe scroll through the aggregate of quotes if I'm interested in seeing a movie. I'm sure there are excellent film critics out there (there certainly are plenty of film critics out there), but I haven't latched on to anyone. I miss Roger's heart and soul.
