Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) Michael Bay breaks his toy so no one else can play.

The mess that is Transformers: The Last Knight is truly staggering, even by big dumb action movie standards, but as this one is apparently the last in the series to be directed by Michael Bay I really feel sorry for whoever comes in to try and pick up the pieces of this nonsensical train wreck. The decision to have Earth turn out to be Cybetron's nemesis Unicron will make any sequel almost impossibly hard to write. How can the heroes defeat Unicron when it's our own planet? Blowing it up certainly isn't an option.

Other Issues I had:

  • We are introduced to a young Latino girl who can fix hurt Transformers, how this is the case is left to our imagination, but then the film quickly abandons her character for about an hour.

    • The military make a deal with Megatron, one that involves freeing some of his evil compatriots from prison, for a plan that makes no fucking sense.
    • The film immediately fails the Bechdel test as the main female protagonist spends much of her time defending not having a man to her female relatives.
    • John Tuturro pops up in the most useless cameo scenes to provided unneeded plot information.
    • We learn the Transformers have secretly been alongside humans since the Dark Ages. Worse is we learn Bumblebee fought against the Nazis when the first movie clearly showed him arriving on Earth with Optimus Prime and the others.
