The biggest problem with the Harry Potter movies wasn't that they cut cool stuff from the books. It's that they just decided to stop using color halfway through.

There are better ways for a series to get "darker" than by literally turning them in to almost black and white films.

I'm not knocking black and white movies by any means, mind you. I can easily get entertainment out of colorless or color-muted movies given limitations of the era or if the story is told well( E.g. Universal Horror, Sin City)

But Harry Potter. It just irks me like no other. The descriptions in the books are so vibrant. I've almost finished the audiobook series for the second time now. The imagination just runs wild with what you see in your mind. The scenes and scenarios painted in your mind when described on the books are magnificent and vivid. And, yes, I get that other people envision different images when reading.

But I can not fathom why (How bout that symbolism though? Aside) in the movies, it was decided that whole movies in the series, besides some Snape flashbacks and the flashes that shoot out of wands are just muted blue, or beige, etc.

Remember when you read about Hogsmeade? And how wonderful of a place it sounded like to visit? And then Harry goes there! And it's... Oh, it looks just like Privet Drive. Woo. Okay maybe it's just been cloudy for a while in ther area. What about Harry and Dumbledore's pensieve excursions? Goblet of Fire did it pretty well but, oh... I guess we need to be told that it's a flashback in Half-Blood Prince by taking even more color out this time around. How about the Ministry of Magic? Did anyone really think it was just completely dull black walls all the way through when reading? This is the Wizarding World! Why is it even more colorless than a flourescent-lit government facility in the muggle world?

It's off my chest now. I'm done.

Oh... and my initial statement doesn't apply to Goblet of Fire. The movie adaptation was a fucking travesty.
