12 Angry Men (1957) is stupidly good. A must see
Decided to give this film a rewatch recently and cannot recommend this film enough really.
On paper, describing this film is a tough sell. A film about 12 guys in a single room talking for its entirety is not going to sound appealing to many people.
But the film is just so engaging and intense. Even though the film is essentially a 96 minute argument, there is so much emotion that is displayed between each and every one of the actors. You really feel the frustration the characters go through, and the film makes you think hard about the jury process.
The film really shouldn't have the right to be as good as it was, but it quite simply is a masterpiece. Impeccably acted, it shows you how great films can be made on dialogue alone - no amazing cinematography, no amazing soundtrack, just words
Quite ironically though, words can't really describe just how good the film is. It's the perfect candidate, along with The Shawshank Redemption as great films you have to watch yourself to see why it's truly great. It has to be experienced.
