For example, Neil Labute made In The Company Of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors and Nurse Betty and established himself as one of the most consistently good directors in Hollywood, but then made The Wicker Man....

Also, Ron Howard has Cocoon, Apollo 13, Cinderella Man, Frost/Nixon and Rush but has also made The Grinch, The Da Vinci Code and The Missing

And of course the obvious ones. M Night going from The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs to The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth and Alex Proyas going from The Crow and Dark City to Knowing and Gods Of Egypt.
