The Last Jedi: Star Wars Film Ratings by Fan's Year of Birth
With The Last Jedi having been out for three weeks now, most fans have seen the film at least once and many have seen it multiple times. Needless to say, the reactions on the internet have been very mixed. In fact, discussing the relative quality of Star Wars films outside of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back has always tended to stir up debate amongst fans, even if none has perhaps been as polarizing as the newest entry in the saga.
One trend I have noticed recently is an attempt to tie these general views to when the reviewer was born. For example, individuals who grew up watching the prequel trilogy may have a more favorable view of those films than individuals who were already grown adults when those films were first released. The new additions we have received thus far via Disney's contribution have both added new films to the discussion and brought new fans into the fold.
My aim is simple: to poll the members of r/movies in an attempt to determine if there are any significant trends that correlate birth year to ratings for the films.
Of course I realize this is not an airtight, scientific study, but at the very least it should be a fun endeavour (sort of like Star Wars). One thing I would ask is for everyone to be honest both in their assessment of each film and in providing their actual year of birth. You may be tempted to rate a particular film higher or lower in an attempt to give your opinion more weight, but it will undermine the survey. Only a Sith deals in absolutes! Likewise, misrepresenting your year of birth just to mess with the results would be a lame thing to do.
It's as simple as rating each film from 1 to 10 and then selecting your year of birth and submitting your results. Have at it! Oh, and more responses make for better data, so feel free to share this with any Star Wars fans you know!
