The Snape Memories sequence from Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is masterful filmaking.

This sequence is the build up to the climax of the film. Not only that, it also serves to reveal the longest mystery of the series, which is Snape's true identity. Additionally, it also hints at a sad outcome for Harry coming up. As a result it had to work perfectly to invoke the right emotions. And it does it beautifully.

The acting is phenomenal. Alan Rickman owns this sequence. His work in 8 films were leading to this and he delivered big time. The tragic nature of his life was wonderfully portrayed.

I think the selection of the memories as well as the editing for them was great. Particularly the positioning of the new scenes with the old.

The dialogue is fantastic here between Snape and Dumbledore. Some of the best lines from the series can be found here, and once again they are delivered perfectly. The 'Always' line is perhaps the most popular, but the build up to that line has terrific dialogue which make the Always bit much more meaningful.

The camera work as well as the purposefully low lighting enhance the scene well.

Lastly, the score is beautifully composed here.
