Only now do I realize how dark The Incredibles is

I was rewatching the incredibles last night along with a few friends and the movie is so much more messed up than I remember. For starters, it deals with adult themes such as having a midlife crisis, infidelity, and most notably and prominently throughout the film death.

In the beginning with Helen and Bob’s wedding you’ll notice a bunch of heroes in the pews. Sitting up front is Gazerbeam who if you’ll recall is the corpse mr. Incredible hides behind while hiding from syndrome. He had to hide behind the dead body of his FRIEND. Not some random dead person. His friend. If you pay close attention to the scene where mr. Incredible is going through the computer you’ll see that some of the supers even eliminated the Omnidroids to which they were promptly murdered by their successors.

There were also audio files released of the deceased heroes as an introduction into their personalities. It kind of makes their deaths even more tragic in a way once you get to hear about them. But the prospect of a scorned kid, luring in retirer supers and then murdering them one by one just to get to mr. Incredible is horror movie-esque. Not to mention he was willing to let his own assistant (suggested lover) die at the hands of mr. Incredible.

Besides all the murder that goes on, they also show the deaths of all the caped superheroes and eventually syndrome to reiterate the “no capes” idea. They actually SHOW that.

The incredibles is a fantastic film and definitely ahead of its time, but you gotta wonder how they got away with marketing this as a kid’s movie.

Tl;dr: the incredibles has the same plot as watchmen.
