Stand By Me's ending monologue and it's significance

It is one of the greatest coming of age movies of all time. The dialogue between the friends at that age really resonate with pretty much anyone growing up with a couple of close friends. Watched this movie for the first time for English class in high school, could not care less as a youngster. Looking back now though, my teacher sure did have a great taste in movies. Anyways, i find myself reminiscing about my child hood best friends alot. As a grown adult.

"It happens sometimes, friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant."

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

Those two lines hit me hard as fuck, i feel quite somber thinking about it, but i'll never, ever acquire new friends like the ones i've had in my childhood ever again since i'll never be a kid again. It just really is a shame you can lose touch with people

Anyways, i just wanted to discuss this somewhere.

“At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time and nobody knew it”
