Finally got around to watching Jaws. Quite shocked at how good it was.
I thought it would be dated, unrelated and ineffective. Wrong. Sure, it looks like an older movie and the acting is of its time - but that was no bad thing, because it worked.
I can't believe it was a PG - Quint's death alone was horrific, and I can sit through any Saw movie unaffected. Perhaps it was the fact he was a well-written character acted well that made the impact. Or all that fucking blood pouring out of his mouth! And I hated the bastard for the most part! What a prick!
Also, it was interesting that arguably the best scene of the film was Quint's story about the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Although the most touching scene for me was the one with Brody and his son at the dinner table. "Give us a kiss." "Why?" "Because I need it." Oh, damn.
I would recommend this movie.
