Terminator 3-5 have been a tremendous waste of what potentially could’ve been a terrific series of films.

We all know Terminator 1 and 2 are amazing films, and one could argue that there never was a need for a 3rd. The 2nd ended perfectly with Judgement Day being stopped. But instead they wanted to make a 3rd film. From that point, they opened the gates on telling the story of John Connor leading humanity against the machines. So if you’re gonna continue the story after T2, then do it right and with passion.

What we should’ve gotten was a sequel about John as a young man, rising to power, befriending a young Kyle, and learning to fight back. We could’ve been introduced to new and interesting characters, perhaps even a Terminator who would become an ally. The last movie would feature an older and more experienced John, with humanity well organized and equipped, that leads into the final battle against Skynet, and maybe even John figuring out how to break the time travel cycle and stop Skynet for good.

4 well crafted movies in total. T1-4.

Instead we get a rehash of the first two movies, a misguided attempt at finally doing the future war, and I don’t even know what Genisys was trying to be. As much as James Cameron coming back has peaked my curiousity, by the sound of the casting, it looks as if it’ll be another time travel story.

Why was it so hard for Hollywood to figure this out? The proper formula for telling this whole story should’ve been obvious.
