Are X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants problematic films the studio is trying to dump?

I find it very suspicious the way Fox is handling the situation. Where there's smoke, there's fire. The continual delays, the negative press, the T on the studio not being happy about these films, adding more sub-plots and characters...etc.

The news about Fox-Disney scrapping these films turned out to be untrue yet I suspect the truth might be close. With Mowgli being sold to Netflix, it is possible we might see the same destiny befall Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. The studio not acting as if they have two potential money-makers, they're acting like they have two stinkers and undecided if they need to take the risk to release these films or have it shelved.

As a lifelong fan of the X-Universe, it is disheartening to see how Fox has been handling it as I thought they were finally getting the sense of it after the success of the last films they did, Logan turned out to be one of the best comic book movies of the last decade, yet when it comes to X-Men, instead of revitalizing the series, they chose to continue with the current line-up even after Apocalypse turned out the way it did. I don't even see the point of doing the Dark Phoenix again. It's easy to lay the blame on X-Men: The Last Stand and I'm certain the film had many problems however time constraints also have to be taken into account. The Dark Phoenix Saga doesn't work in a single film, it has to be placed in a trilogy.
