Do writers not get enough credit?

I feel like in movies you always see “Directed By...” or “Produced by...” when in reality it’s the writers who wrote the movie. They’re the ones who wrote that awesome scene or that funny joke that everyone remembers. I just feel like writers don’t get enough credit or recognition for what they do. Thoughts?
