What are some movies that had no right being as good as they turned out to be?

I'm talking odds stacked against the film, and it turning out to be either well received or just you personally liking it much more than you thought you would. The premise could be absurd, or because of a certain director or cast member involved, or maybe it had a low budget. Whatever reason it should have otherwise failed.

I'll start with three:

Iron Man

A B-List super hero, an out of work lead actor and the director of Elf started the MCU

Surf's Up

3D animated surfing penguins as the subject for an incredibly good mockumentary

Power Rangers

A 2017 reboot that should have been an expensive low effort money grab (ala the live action TMNT movies) but is actually closer to The Breakfast Club
