What are the smartest decisions made by characters in film?

Everyone always talks about poor decisions made by dumb characters, e.g. horror movies.

But what are the best/smartest decisions made by intelligent characters?

I recently watched the Alien series, and aside from saving Jones the cat, all of Ellen Ripley's decisions are really solid. But the biggest one for me was when she denied the John Hurt and the facehugger from boarding the ship in the first one (even though that was overturned). She was pretty much the only crew member to actually follow protocol, and none of the franchise would have happened if that moment had gone her way.

EDIT: Doesn't have to be horror movies. Can be anything.
