Trailers that start with a ~3 second action-packed preview have a 300% viewer retention rate

In a recent AMA on the r/Filmmakers subreddit, professional trailer editor u/BauerBourneBond answered my question on where this new trend of trailers having a short snippet before they start originated from.

Edit: example from the recent Zombieland sequel trailer: https://youtu.be/ZlW9yhUKlkQ

He explained that if a trailer just starts with a studio logo or something similarly bland, then there is a 75% viewer drop off rate.

He also answered a lot of other interesting questions, such as how does one get into the trailer editing business, what his journey was, and what he thinks of trailers revealing too much of the plot, among other things. Thought it'd be interesting to share the AMA on this sub as well.
