Hereditary is a movie that has kept me up at night for all the right reasons.
Hereditary is a movie I have not been able to get out of my mind. As someone who grew up afraid of the dark, this movie hit me on so many levels. I mean yea, there was the shot of Toni Collette barely visible, hiding on the ceiling, in her son’s bedroom. That’s enough to freak anyone out, especially since you had to really look for it to see it and once you saw it, you felt uneasy. But the one scene that fucks me up at night, or during the day, or while I’m taking a dump, is the scene where the son is in the attic at the end. Not only does he see his mom floating in the air, slowly decapitating herself with that disgustingly awful sound of her head being sawn off. The worst part, for me, is him turning his head to see three naked people, in the DARK, staring at him while smiling. I don’t blame him for peacing the fuck out at the end. I quite literally had goosebumps typing this shit.
I can’t bring myself to watch this movie again, but I really want to. To end this post, I would just like to thank Ari Aster for making a terrifying, yet beautiful film. I'm gonna go sleep with the lights on.
