Take Shelter is a masterpiece and a wonderful portrayal of Mental Illness.

Michael Shannon really is powerful and convincing in this film, Jessica Chastain is also really damn good. I don't know why he didn't get more coverage and acclaim for his performance but all the same he really knocked it out of the park.

Jeff Nichols script and directing is also top notch. For him to make a film that in its nature is just a family drama and make it this interesting and thought provoking is really a great feat. The editing and pacing also lends a really good flow to the picture.

And most importantly is the coverage of mental illness, it isn't overtly said or ham handed in its showcase either. Anyone who has ever had a mentally ill family member can see how accurate this is.

I personally see this film as a modern classic and highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
