James Mangold addresses the magic of editing and not just the very long scenes that are popular now

James Mangold offered some film advice I think about every time I watch a long scene like the Copacabana tracking shot in "Goodfellas." He says one of his film professors, Hitchcock colleague Stefan Sharff, instilled in him the beauty of transitional edits. Mangold says he's sorry so many filmmakers today view edits as "concessions" instead of opportunities.
