Gerwig' Little Women is so charming and entertaining
I saw Little Women in December and just watched it again. I have to say that it might just be my favorite movie from last year. It's such an easy, cozy, and entertaining watch, while also being extremely emotional at points and able to have intelligent conversations about being a mother and a sister and a daughter and a wife. These characters are all fully fleshed out, each with virtues and flaws, and a have relationships between themselves that feels so real. I'd say the March sisters are the most likable characters I've seen in a while.
This isn't even going into the filmmaking, which feels so alive and in love with the story and characters. It's a beautiful looking movie with a great score, and the way it's intercut between past and present gives weight and thematic resonance to scenes that otherwise may not have had it. A great comfort movie that also has much more up its sleeve if you want something heavier to digest.
