V for Vendetta - 15 years later and more relevant than when it was made

The movie is almost prophetic today. I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out and while I liked it, I felt the second half of the film was mediocre. I watched this again last night with my wife and both of us where speechless as the parallels between the US in its current state and the film were Nostradamus- like.

Spoilers below for those that haven't seen it

  • References to a man made virus or pandemic that kills 80,000 people (America just surpassed 100k dead)
  • Authoritarian leader with fascists tendencies ( don't want to make this a political debate but you get the drift)
  • State controlled police violence
  • Government distortions and outright lies to control the population
  • Popular uprising against the state and their policies (in the wake of Minnesota this was almost identical to the BLM sudden surge)

I highly highly recommend a rewatch or a first watch. I'm still astounded as to the relevancy of this film more than even 2005 during the peak of the Iraq war.

And currently streaming on Netflix for the win.
