Fahrenheit 451 (2018) is the worst

When the director said that it is an adaptation based on the book, I was like, “OK fine they don’t need to directly follow the source material”. I was wrong, it wasn’t an adaptation and more like a completely different story that plagiarized some elements and characters from the book. It may be the worst movie adaptation I have ever seen, and here are a few examples on how they did not even try to stick to the source material... (Spoilers for the book, not the movie, the movie sucks ass) •

In the book, Guy Montag’s wife, is constantly looking at her parlour wall (wall tv) and talking to her fake “family” instead of engaging with Guy. This lack of communication with the woman he is supposed to spend the rest of his life with is one of the main things that makes Montag question his job and life as a book burner. WELL GUESS WHAT... they completely cut her from the story and instead make her into a weird cameo •

In the book, 17 year old Clarisse McCellen teaches Montag that there is more to the world that Media and artificial highs. She acts as a mentor to guy, and he is devastated when she is murdered by someone in a “jet car” that thought it would be fun to fun her over. WELL instead of this they age her a few years, make her a book dealer, and try to force a relationship between the two, which for anyone who has read the book, was very creepy. •

In the book, Montag kills his superior officer, a defining moment for the character. In the movie they just make him kill some other dude which, just why... •

they have this whole other plot line with something called the omnis, honestly I was so done at this point that I don’t even know what was happening •

They got rid of my favorite character, Faber, a retired English professor who conspires with Montag and is basically one of the most important characters in the book. Honestly I could go on for 7 paragraphs about how this movie made Ray Bradbury roll in his grave, but you get the point. There were some good actors in this movie like MBJ and Michael Shannon who played their characters well, which was just about the only thing I liked about the movie. It is better to think of it as an independent movie, not a book adaptation. I honestly think I would have liked it a lot more if I hadn’t read the book. If you have read the book don’t watch the movie, you will want to throw up

TL/DR: Just read Fahrenheit 451 and tried to watch watch the movie only to find out that it is nothing like the source material. Ray Bradbury is rolling in his grave!
