Hi, I'm Lance Oppenheim, director of SOME KIND OF HEAVEN, a documentary that explores the surreal world of The Villages, America's largest retirement community. AMA!

I’m a filmmaker from South Florida and began making movies in high school– short documentaries about offbeat Floridian subcultures inspired by local news. My movies have been screened at Sundance, Rotterdam, Tribeca, True/False, and have been featured at the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian.

My debut feature SOME KIND OF HEAVEN explores life inside the manicured lawns and meticulously crafted suburban bliss in The Villages, Florida, the self-described “Disneyworld for Retirees.” I was fascinated that over a hundred thousand retirees were uprooting their lives to cocoon themselves inside this kind of Truman Show-like fantasy world... a place designed to remind them of their youth.
