Let’s talk about Antonio Salieri, the villain from Amadeus (1984), who I think is one of the best villains ever.

The reason I bring this up is because I’ve seen characters written like him before.

I just feel like he’s so unique because of his relentless determination to battle what he believes to be God’s obstacle. In which case, it’s Mozart’s existence. And you totally understand why he has those desires since >! His father chokes to death !< and because of Mozart’s godlike talent.

It’s so interesting to watch him put up this fake persona of friendliness while also at the same time try to thing of ways for Mozart to fail. And it’s carried beautifully by F. Murray Abraham’s acting.

I also really enjoy the ending when he >! “Absolves” all of the mediocrities. I feel like he did it to show to himself that if he could provide self-acceptance to others, there would also be no reason for him to try and kill himself again. !< The ending is also really important because it once again shows how blinded he is to want to destroy God’s vessel of music (Mozart) since he can’t see that he’s an incredible composer as well.

What are your thoughts? Thank you.
